Eve ended up in the hospital this week. It all started with her having a cough Fri. night. Sat. she was throwing up, Sun. she was throwing up blood. At which point, we immediately whisked her to the ER. Thank goodness we did. She was so dehydrated that they couldn’t even draw any blood to do blood tests on her without first starting the IV for a while. At the ER, they just gave her some IV fluids and an anti-nausea suppository and sent her home. The next morning, she was back to the same. I took her to the dr. and they took one look at her, did chest x-rays and told us to see the ped. and that we would probably be going to the hospital for a stay. 45 min. later, the ped. took one look at her and told us to head over and check in. Diagnosis: influenza A and B and pneumonia. It was so sad. She was just limp and lethargic and anything I could get her to drink, she threw up anyway. So, day 1 went by without any changes. They gave her breathing treatments and put her in the croup tent and gave her anti-nausea meds. in her i.v. but they didn’t always work. The nurses probably changed her sheets 10 times a day due to puke and poop. Day 2 went by and we learned that she was dangerously low in potassium so they gave her some in her i.v. Day 3 came and we started to get worried because she was still the same. We started thinking about taking her to a children’s hospital. I went home to spend some time with O and take the dog to the neighbor’s. By the time I got back she was sitting up and laughing and giving everyone high 5’s. I couldn’t believe it. I hadn’t seen her awake in 3 days!! It was fantastic!! It is just amazing the way that she just turned around like that. Then, the next day, as I was signing the discharge paperwork, of course, she started projectile vomiting all over the place. I looked at the nurse and I said "we still get to go home don’t we?" She laughed. She says this happens all the time…..
Oh yeah, I am leaving out the bit about me getting the flu the second day there and puking my guts up in the hospital along with other various intestinal unpleasantries. Luckily, my dr. was also Eve’s (family dr.) and I called her and she called in a prescription for Tamiflu which worked miracle becasue by the next day I felt so much better. That was tough. Trying to be there and take care of your baby in the hospital whilst puking, etc…yourself…..
Of course, O got sick and puked the last 2 days we were in the hospital and jon was puking by the time it was time to bring Eve home. Thank goodness for family! My mom took off Tues., Wed., and Thu. to take care of O (no kids under 12 allowed on the hospital floors) and to help. Jon took off 1/2 a day Tues. to help take care of Eve since I was puking and Wed. and then 1/2 day Thu.
Anyway, thank goodness it is all over. It makes me seriously reconsider my position on not vaccinating Eve……I think we are going to start getting her vaccinated. Slowly. 1 shot at a time instead of the normal 2 or 3……The hospital just sucks…….It really makes you thankful for what you have….healthy, happy, children!!!

I second that, girlfriend!! I am glad to hear you are all feeling better! xoxoxo A.
